Printed in ink on the bottom-right corner of the sheet: "In the year 1758 Col. Washington paid his address successfully to Mrs. Martha Custis to whom he was married on the 6th of January 1759. This lady was three months younger than himself, widow of John Park Custis, distinguished alike for her beauty, accomplishments, and wealth."
